Replacing the oil in a high pressure pump on a desalinator.
This should be done after the first 50 hours of operation, then every 500 hours there after.
(Note: Always check the oil level in the pump before operation, to avoid damage to system.)
First check oil level in the unit, document if it is low or milky colored as these are signs of leaks or water intrusion. (Note: Have oil absorbing rags on hand).
Next locate the oil drain coil coming from the bottom of the HP pump, all Sea X Change systems will have a coil of tubing with a valve on the end, or a port on side of unit, for oil changing.
Now drain the oil from the Hp pump into an appropriate container. Dispose of properly.
(Note: Running the unit for 10 minutes before draining the oil, this will heat it up and allow it to drain quicker. It also gives the opportunity to check the current status of the system).
Warning: Never run unit with out oil!
Refill Hp pump with new oil, fill unil the sight glass is half full.
The newer models have a threaded fitting to attach to the oil bottle to refill through the drain hose.
Caution: Make sure the fitting is threaded on tight so oil does not leak out!
Hold bottle above Hp pump level and use the valve to control the flow into the pump. There is a scale on the side of the oil bottle so you can track how much is used.
Each Hp pump manufacturer has their own oil, usually indicated by different color dyes.
